How to reinstate your license in Nebraska

  1. To see if you are eligible to apply for a Nebraska Ignition Interlock Permit (IIP), click here or call the Department of Motor Vehicles at (402) 471-3985.
  2. Call 1-833-545-0368 to schedule your ignition interlock installation appointment.
  3. Get the ignition interlock device (IID) installed on each vehicle you plan on driving, please make sure to bring all required documents to your appointment.
  4. Apply for the Ignition Interlock Permit online, or download and mail the application. All required paperwork must be submitted to the Department of Motor Vehicles, Financial Responsibility Division in Lincoln.
  5. We will notify the Department of Motor Vehicles once the IID has been installed.
  6. You must turn in your current Nebraska driver’s license/permit to the Downtown Lincoln DMV office, located at 301 Centennial Mall South, Lincoln, NE. If you no longer have possession of your license, you can sign an affidavit of lost license.
  7. Pay all required fees and meet all applicable requirements for any other actions on your driving record.
  8. Once your application is approved, you can go to any Nebraska licensing station and get your IIP, which will grant you limited driving privileges
