Consuming alcohol and operating a vehicle do not mix. If you drink at a party, a restaurant, or a bar, you can use the Alcotest 3820 device, a personal breathalyzer, to determine your blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level. This product is from RoadGuard, the same company that manufactures ignition interlock devices to prevent a vehicle from starting if the driver’s blood alcohol concentration exceeds a specified limit.

Understand the Penalties of Drinking and Driving

You should know that states have different BAC legal limits and different penalties for drunk driving. For example, while many states have a BAC legal limit of .08, others, such as Utah, have even lower BAC legal limits of .05. BAC levels higher than the legal limit may result in increasing and stricter penalties, including possible jail time in some states.

Alcohol consumption limits your reaction time. For example, you may not stop in time to avoid an obstacle, or you may miss signals and roadway signs. Driving while intoxicated (DWI) or driving under the influence (DUI) is always extremely dangerous to you, your passengers, pedestrians, and other vehicles on the road.

Know-How Alcohol Affects You

The RoadGuard Alcotest® 3820, sold through Amazon, is highly recommended for responsible persons who want to determine his or her BAC level after consuming alcohol before deciding to operate a vehicle. The device is small, and it fits into a pocket or handbag. It can be used discreetly to determine a person’s BAC level.

Your BAC level can depend on the type of drinks you consume, how much food you have eaten, your age, weight, and health. Your judgment and reaction times can be significantly impaired at a BAC significantly lower than .08.

According to the BAC calculator, a person with a weight of 150 pounds will have an approximate alcohol level of .075 with three average drinks that each have 1.25 ounces of alcohol consumed within two hours. A 160-pound male who consumes four glasses of wine at six ounces per glass during a three-hour period will have an approximate BAC of .0892% after the last drink, according to the calculator.

A person may consume a mixed drink that includes soda or fruit juices mixed with the spirits, but the alcohol level is the same as without a mixer. A drink with 1.25 ounces of whiskey mixed with soda is the same as straight whiskey without a mixer, except that the alcohol may take a little longer for the alcohol to be absorbed with a mixer. Food also typically slows the absorption of alcohol, but it does not prevent a person from becoming inebriated.

Get a Personal Breathalyzer for Accuracy and Reliability

The Alcotest 3820 device is accurate and uses very similar technology to the breathalyzers used by police departments nationwide in the U.S. to determine alcohol impairment.

No one should drive with a BAC at any level! The Alcotest 3820 can be used anywhere, so you can always measure your blood alcohol concentration.

Alcohol affects everyone differently. It is important to remember that impairment can occur at even the lowest BAC level. People should be aware of how they are affected by alcohol consumption and use a personal breathalyzer to assure no level of BAC before attempting to operate a vehicle.

The portable Alcotest 3820 can also be used by passengers in your vehicle to test their BAC levels if necessary. This is a handy device to have when you attend a holiday party, sporting event, or any occasion where you and your friends may consume alcohol.
