Ignition Interlock Program

Ignition Interlock Program in Washington

If your license has been suspended, an ignition interlock device allows you to operate your vehicle under a suspended license. The Washington State Patrol runs the Washington interlock program, which you can apply for at any time. The length of time the device has to remain installed on your vehicle depends on your conviction history. According to the ignition interlocks program, to apply for an ignition interlock device, you must meet the following criteria, as outlined by the Washington State Department of Licensing:

1.  An arrest or conviction of drunk driving, reckless driving, or vehicular assault or homicide involving drugs or alcohol.
2. You must possess a current (unexpired) Washington State license or a valid out-of-state license.
3. Your suspension or revocation cannot include a Minor in Possession conviction and/or a Habitual Traffic Offender conviction.

The first step in the interlock application process is installing an ignition interlock device. RoadGuard Interlock will then send a proof of installation to the state licensing department. Next, you will need to prove financial responsibility, and then apply online through the License Express Portal.

Note: RoadGuard, Inc. will inspect and calibrate the ignition interlock device regularly to comply with Washington Interlock Program regulations.
