What happens when you stop drinking for a month? There is an old saying that every problem contains the seed of opportunity. It may sound cliché, but lemonade really is made from lemons! If you’re facing a period of time when alcohol consumption has been limited due to driving violations or you just need to refresh your habits, this might be a good time to stop drinking for a month and explore other activities.

Here is How to Stop Drinking for a Month

Get Started

Like many things, getting started may be the hardest part. It is beneficial to think of the positives instead of the negatives. What are you gaining when you give up drinking for a month? You’re gaining possible health benefits, money, and time. And you are taking charge of your life.

Take Control

Control often has a negative connotation, as in “control freak.” But the truth is control of our actions helps us reach our goals and be the people we want to be. Sometimes alcohol may make people do things they wouldn’t ordinarily do. Taking a month away from drinking can be a good way to stay in control of your day-to-day actions.

Enjoy Alternative Activities

An occasional break from social drinking can be beneficial. As noted above, the first few days of a lifestyle change may be tough, so prepare. Make a list of the things you have been intending to do, but can’t seem to find time for. Do them! This includes working out, tackling that DIY project, or doing something special with a loved one or friend.

One of the biggest lessons people learn when they are free from habitual activities is that they have time for some of the more important things. Time is our most important resource, we can’t accomplish anything without it.

Improve Your Health

Take a swim or a run, walk along the beach at sunset. Go to the gym and work out. The simple truth is good health isn’t just something you have. It’s part of what makes you who you are. Do you want to be better? Do more? Be the person you truly can be? You can when you stop drinking for a month and take advantage of all there is to do. If it is difficult to make it through think about positive, healthy activities you can do. Start small, but do some type of exercise a few times each week. Work up to more activity as the weeks go on. Take a month to free yourself from distractions and unnecessary habits.
